E! Reports: 'If I can cheat, why can't she?' Todays Entertainment ...

As smitten vampires in Twilight, they swore to be together forever. In real life, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s love story doesn’t seem to have the same sense of fidelity. And as the World Wide Web will tell you, their romance ran into a storm after Kristen cheated with Rupert Sanders

(the Snow White And The Huntsman director is a married man). Later, she publicly apologised for the same.

Besides angering RPatz (who reportedly moved out of the house they shared), this proves another thing — that the west is open not just about admitting to their relationships, but even their painful ends.

Will the Indian celebrity ever do something similar? We spoke to a few, half of whom refrained from making any specific remarks. According to psychiatrist Dr Trupti Jayin, the Indian psyche is different. “Women, whether celeb wives or not, have too many social reasons to keep secrets hidden. But most celeb wives hang on to their husbands even after they’ve gone astray,” she says, adding, “They cling to the ‘Mrs Khan’, ‘Mrs Kapoor’ or ‘Mrs Whatever’ tag because it has its own perks.”

Jayin points out, however, that there’s been a change of late: “Look at John Abraham and Bipasha Basu. They were together for close to a decade and then parted ways. The cracks had become visible and they didn’t hide the split.”

Bollywood seems divided on the issue:

Vikram Bhatt: “If I can cheat or go astray, why can’t she? I don’t mind my partner cheating… I’ve had relationships outside of my marriage and have never shied away from admitting them. It’s time we stopped being hypocrites.”

Pooja Bedi: “If you’re truly apologetic, confess to your partner before they discover it from some other source. The media was already talking about Kristen. So she just went a step further and made it official. I can never think of cheating on my partner because I have been on the other side when my partner cheated on me. Nothing is more humiliating, whether the admission is public or private.”

Sara Khan: “If I ever cheated on my partner, I’d be the one to tell him. It helps you face the person without guilt.”

Karanvir Bohra: “If you are going to cheat for fun, then it’s irrelevant to confess because you’ll do it again! But if you’ve made a mistake, bury it deep within. Just don’t ever do it again.”

Nandish Sandhu: “Don’t cheat on your partner, if you do, tell them that you’re the stupidest person in this world!”

Ex-files

Sridevi: In her prime, the actor was dating Boney Kapoor, who was married to the late Mona Kapoor, and was a father of two. Today, she’s happily married to him with two girls of her own.

Sushmita Sen: Her entry into director Vikram Bhatt’s life meant his wife’s exit. Eventually, Sen and Bhatt split.

Rani Mukerji: Her constant visits to the Yash Raj office made headlines. She was allegedly the reason for Payal and Aditya Chopra’s divorce in 2009.
