Peter Shilton has fallen in love with a glamorous singer just months after he split from his wife of 40 years.
The 62-year-old footie legend is dating Stephanie Hayward who is 18 years his junior, after chatting her up in a hotel lift.
According to his friends, Hayward, a semi-pro jazz singer, has helped him feel young again following the anguished breakdown of his marriage to Sue, the mother of his two grown-up sons.
"Peter’s been through a tough time. But he is the happiest he has been now in years. And that’s all down to Stephanie," the Mirror quoted a friend as saying.
The former goalie, stepped out holding hands with the 44-year-old singer, close to her home near Colchester, Essex.
He has stayed there regularly with the mum of one, who juggles her singing engagements with her job as a health worker.
She has been dating the former Nottingham Forest and Derby star for two months after meeting him at an event where he had been a celebrity speaker.
"They met in the lift of the hotel. Stephanie didn’t even know who Peter was because she is not a big football fan," her friend said.
"But she certainly caught his eye. They got chatting and by the time they stepped out the lift had agreed to meet up for a drink.
"They’ve not looked back since. It’s early days but they are both very happy. She’s helped Peter feel young again," the friend added. (ANI)
