10 what and why questions for ‘Closer’ Magazine contents page.
1. Why has the editor left a message/letter?
The editor could have left a message to make the reader feel more homely and welcoming. It could be a greeting letter which makes the audience feel like they really want you to read their magazine and become friends with you.
2. Why have ‘Closer’ used the articles on the left to be pointed out?
Closer have used the articles on the side because they could be the top stories for the magazines or most talked about story in the public. Also the first article includes Holly Willoughby who is a famous presenter and the audience would want to know about her life.
3. Why have they put those clothes on the celebrity at the bottom of the page?
This is a diet article where Edith Bowman has lost weight and says she never has to diet again. This makes the reader want to know the secret about losing weight because it is one of women’s biggest worries and want to deal with. So they have used a small, pink, strappy dress to make her stand out and show off her new curves and that she has lost lots of weight. She is smiling to look confident and happy which gives a good mode of address to the audience.
4. Why have they made half of the sub-headings bold but the other half not?
The sub-headings all start with ‘closer to…’ which includes the name of the magazine. The end of the heading is in bold e.g. closer to real life. They have made it like this so the magazine is split up into parts and easier to find things around the magazine. The ‘Celeb news’ has the most as that is the main articles in the magazine.
5. Why have they put a picture of the cover on the contents page?
They have used a picture of the cover on the contents page to show the other big stories. Closer have used points on the right of the photo of the cover to tell you what the other big stories in the magazine were so you don’t forget them.
6. What makes the ‘Next issue on sale, 14 July’ stand out?
