Text Santa charity appeal: The numbers are in! | World of Difference ...

Text Santa was one of the most exciting charity events of 2012, with celebrities clamoring to get involved with ITV’s action-packed charity appeal. The appeal took place during December and ran through to January this year, raising money for six much-loved UK charities.

In the end, with the public’s help, Text Santa raised an enormous £5,240,000 for good causes, with just over £3,000,000 raised using JustTextGiving by Vodafone. The appeal also saw a 25 per cent increase over the amount of money raised during the previous year’s campaign. The best bit? It’s not just about the amount of money raised – the charities in question all benefitted in other ways, too. Read on to find out how…

The money raised was split equally between six UK charities: Age UK, Anthony Nolan, Carers UK, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Together for Short Lives, and Whizz-Kidz, Not only will the money make a huge impact on their work, they’ve seen benefits in other ways:

• Anthony Nolan has reported an amazing 849 per cent increase in the number of people who successfully applied to join the charity’s register. That means thousands of cancer sufferers will face a second chance at life in the future.

• Age UK points out that volunteering enquires jumped by 281 per cent during the Text Santa appeal, while Carers UK garnered an 800 per cent rise in Twitter followers on the day the Text Santa TV extravaganza was aired.

• Marie Curie Cancer Care has seen a staggering 1,000 per cent boost in revenue over the same period in 2011, while Together for Short Lives say that its website traffic doubled during the Text Santa appeal.

• With Whizz-Kidz also highlighting an increase in the number of people talking about them on the day Text Santa was on TV (4,363 per cent!), it’s clear that all the charities have benefitted hugely from the appeal. Keen for more info? Check out what they’ll spend the money on during 2013.
