Looks like George Clooney found himself one of the good ones!

Amal Alamuddin, a London-based barrister, recently talked about a case of hers that nearly landed her in Egyptian jail!

The newlywed was talking to The Guardian about the tense situation in which she was defending three Al Jazeera journalists, Peter Greste, Baher Mohamed, and Mohamed Fahmy, who spoke their minds. She explained:

"When I went to launch the report, first of all they stopped us from doing it in Cairo. They said: 'Does the report criticize the army, the judiciary, or the government?' We said: 'Well, yes.' They said: 'Well then, you're risking arrest.'"

Amal also talked about how in the Egyptian government, they pick which judges and panels will preside over which cases. She explained, "We've seen the results of that in this particular case where you had a handpicked panel led by a judge who is known for dispensing brutal verdicts. And this one was no different."

Her three clients were sentenced to between seven to 10 years back in June. However, a New Year's Day retrial had been approved. Sadly though, Amal doesn't think it will turn out any different:

"If the idea is: well, there were errors and now there's going to be a retrial, but then the retrial operates on the same basis as the original one, that doesn't really mean much… We have to continue and double our efforts to achieve his release in other ways. Unfortunately we have to conclude that we can't rely on these Egyptian court processes to achieve a fair or swift result."

We're hoping for the best for these men, and for Amal! She's got Gorgeous George to look after now!!!
