The 33-year-old comedian remembered inspirational Stephen, who lost his battle with cancer in May 2014, in an emotional post on his Facebook page.

Jason paid tribute to the 19-year-old's achievement raising over £5million for Teenage Cancer Trust, but reminded his followers that many youngster are still battling with the disease.

He wrote: "Remembering Stephen Sutton this week. It was a year ago when I first got involved with helping Stephen to achieve his aim of raiding £1million for Teenage Cancer Trust.

"Since then he's raised over £5million helping young people with cancer for years to come. Here's to you Stephen."

The star urged people to keep donating to Teenage Cancer Trust

He added: "If anyone would like to make another donation in his memory then please do. Stephen may have gone but Cancer hasn't & every day thousands of scared youngster & their families need our help, or at the very least, our thoughts. Thank you to everyone who donated."

Stephen's determination to live his life, while under the constant shadow of terminal bowel cancer – creating a bucket list and spreading awareness – saw his bid to raise £10,000 vastly exceed the target.

Before his death, Stephen, who was diagnosed aged just 15, said: "I don't see the point in measuring life in terms of time any more. I'd rather measure life in terms of making a difference."

Speaking after the campaign after Stephen's death, Jason said: "It was an amazing thing to be part of. I went to his funeral and are still in touch with Stephen's family."

He continued: "After his death, I thought 'I better just leave them alone for a bit,' but they got in touch with me because they want to keep the momentum going, so I'll do that as best as I can."

"He was just an inspiring boy. Even now when I have those days, I think of Stephen and his message to live for the moment. It is just life affirming," he added.

In November, Stephen's mother Julie Sutton collected an MBE on behalf of her son.

Speaking about receiving the honour from Her Majesty, she said: "It was a very proud moment, but it is a bittersweet occasion.

"I'm feeling so proud to be collecting the award on behalf of Stephen but obviously wish he had been here to collect it himself."
