Which Ex Is We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together About ...

Taylor Swift received a incredible honor when her newest single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Digital Songs chart. This award comes as no surprise to the most devoted fans of Taylor, but one thing still remains a mystery: which one of Taylor’s former beau’s is this song really about?

Certainly, it can’t be about Conor Kennedy, Taylor’s new boyfriend, as the pair was seen cuddling and kissing in Cape Cod, Massachusetts a short while ago. Still, the breakup between Taylor and her previous lover must be still fresh in her mind as Taylor promotes her newest single about moving on… and here at Taylorswift13.org, we’re here to piece together just exactly WHO Taylor is moving on from!!

In a recent interview with Good Morning America, Taylor revealed the inspiration for the song:

“This guy walks in who is a friend of my ex’s and starts talking about how he’s heard we’re going to get back together. And that was not the case. … So I start telling them the story: break up, get back together, break up, get back together – just, ugh, the worst! And I picked up the guitar and Max [Shellback, co-writer] said, ‘This is what we’re writing.’ ”

WHAT DO YOU THINK?? Leave us your opinion in the comments below!!!

Taylor’s Pre-fame romances: Drew Hardwick (“Teardrops on my Guitar”) and Sam (“Should’ve Said No”) – 0% chance

Considering Taylor’s high school relationships happened well… in high school (that’s way over six years ago for 22 year old Taylor) it’s doubtful that WANEGBT was written about Drew or Sam. As Taylor penned the song in the more recent past, let’s consider some of Taylor’s more recent relationships.

Joe Jonas – 30% chance

Joe Jonas was Taylor Swift’s first celebrity boyfriend. The couple dated in the summer of 2008 and famously split a few months later over a 27 second phone call. Nearly immediately after the break up, Joe began dating Camilla Belle. Therefore, it is unlikely that Taylor and Joe ever got back multiple times, as the song implies (“I remember when we broke up the first time”).

Joe confirms this theory in an interview on 94.7 Fresh FM:

“I can say it’s not about me, because I don’t think we’ve ever tried another time.”

Still, Joe was spotted at one of Taylor’s Speak Now concerts in Los Angeles. Perhaps he was trying to rekindle the flame?

Taylor Lautner – 5%

After Joe Jonas, Taylor Swift dated the Twilight hunk, Taylor Lautner. The two met on the film set for Valentine’s Day and dated until December 2009. Even though the break-up must not have been easy for the former Taylor Squared, they seem to be currently on friendly terms. Taylor Swift wrote “Back to December” about Lautner as an apology for the way she treated him when they were dating. During a Speak Now show in Los Angeles, Swift pulled Lautner into a warm embrace on her way to the main stage. If Swift and Lautner seem to be on such good terms, it’s doubtful that Swift would write WANEGBT, a pretty spiteful song, about him.

The only argument in favor of WANEGBT being about Lautner is that it seems, even though they made such a cute couple, they are “never, ever, ever getting back together.”

John Mayer – 50%

After John Mayer’s interview with Rolling Stone in June 2012, Taylor and John are definitely “never, ever, ever getting back together.” According to the article, John was absolutely humiliated by “Dear John” and accused her of “cheap songwriting.”

“It made me feel terrible because I didn’t deserve it. I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.”

But the question is: Why did John come out to criticize “Dear John” now? Taylor Swift released Speak Now in October of 2010, nearly two years ago, so why didn’t John Mayer speak his mind sooner? Maybe John Mayer asked Taylor if she wanted to get back together, but she refused. Then, Taylor went and wrote WANEGBT about John, and John went to trash Taylor in Rolling Stone as revenge. Who knows? Note: this is all pure speculation.

Jake Gyllenhaal – 99.99%

Taking into account Taylor’s past relationship history, it is highly likely that WANEGBT is about Jake Gyllenhaal. Jake is Taylor’s most recent ex-boyfriend (their relationship lasted from October 2011-December 2011) and it is rumored that the couple broke up and got back together more than once. Near the end of their relationship, Jake Gyllenhaal allegedly traveled to Nashville in order to win Taylor back. Obviously, it didn’t work.

A new MTV VMA Promo featuring Taylor Swift and Kevin Hart is perhaps the icing on the cake. In the promo, Kevin, the host of the 2012 VMA’s, accuses Taylor of writing WANEGBT about him and thrusts a poorly photoshopped picture in her face as proof. The picture is actually an old paparazzi photo of Taylor Swift walking with her arm around Jake Gyllenhaal. Could this be a hint, Taylor?

All in all, there are no apparent reasons why this song isn’t about Jake Gyllenhaal. If you come up with something, leave a comment below!
